Community Development Volunteer Program

Duration: 1–12 weeks
MOLAC offers a unique Community Immersion Volunteer Program in Tanzania designed for volunteers who are interested in meaningful cultural exchange, education support, and community development. This program provides an opportunity to work closely with local communities in rural settings while contributing to long-term initiatives that support children, families, and local development projects.
As a community immersion volunteer, your primary role will be supporting teaching and learning activities for children. Depending on your skills and interests, you may also take part in a variety of community-based activities, including:

School Education Volunteer Program
MOLAC offers a meaningful Teaching Volunteer Program in Arusha, Tanzania, designed for individuals who are passionate about education and community development. The program supports local schools where classrooms are often large and teachers are required to manage many learners with limited resources.

Location
MOLAC volunteer programs are based in Arusha, Tanzania, a vibrant city known as a gateway to some of Africa’s most remarkable natural attractions. Arusha is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and is located near famous destinations such as the Mount Kilimanjaro and the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. The region is rich in culture, history, and natural beauty, providing volunteers with an opportunity to experience both local community life and Tanzania’s unique environment.

Accommodation and Internet Access
MOLAC provides accommodation designed to give volunteers a comfortable and welcoming environment while experiencing everyday life in Tanzania. Depending on the program and availability, volunteers may stay with carefully selected host families or in shared volunteer accommodation in and around Arusha.
Homestay accommodation offers a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange and allows volunteers to experience local traditions, food, and daily life firsthand. Shared volunteer accommodation creates a friendly atmosphere where participants from different countries and backgrounds can live, learn, and build connections together.
Living conditions in Tanzania may be different from what some volunteers are used to at home, but accommodations are designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience. Rooms are shared with other volunteers, and basic facilities such as running water, electricity, and bathroom facilities are available. Like many areas in Tanzania, occasional power interruptions can happen and may temporarily affect hot water or electricity access.
Internet access may be limited and connection speeds can vary depending on location and network availability. Volunteers who would like reliable access for communication are encouraged to bring an unlocked mobile phone and purchase a local SIM card after arrival. The MOLAC team can assist volunteers with obtaining a local SIM card and setting up mobile data during orientation.
If volunteers plan to arrive before the program start date or remain longer after their placement ends, additional accommodation arrangements can be discussed depending on availability.
Meals
Volunteers are provided with daily meals prepared with a mix of local flavors and familiar dishes. Sharing meals is also an important part of the cultural experience and provides an opportunity to enjoy Tanzanian hospitality.
Tanzanian cuisine reflects the country’s rich cultural diversity and includes a variety of locally available ingredients and traditional recipes. Common foods often include rice, chapati, beans, vegetables, fruits, and local dishes prepared with meat or other protein options.
Breakfast may include bread, fruit, eggs, tea, coffee, pancakes, or traditional snacks. Lunch and dinner commonly consist of balanced meals with vegetables, rice, beans, chapati, pasta, or other local dishes prepared by host families or accommodation staff.
Filtered drinking water is available, and volunteers are encouraged to stay hydrated throughout their stay.
